In 2026, as the nation marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Delaware Poets, Inc. seeks to reflect on this milestone through the lens of poetry. The organization is committed to preserving Delaware’s literary history while creating opportunities and platforms for the poets shaping the First State’s literary landscape today.
The Delaware Poets Almanac, the forthcoming flagship publication of Delaware Poets, Inc., will be a statewide literary initiative dedicated to honoring Delaware’s poetic heritage and amplifying the voices of poets writing today.
Delaware’s poetic story, like its broader history, extends far beyond any single moment or era. From early voices rooted in place and community, through periods of settlement, industry, migration, and social change, to the diverse and evolving poetry of the present day, Delaware poets have long responded to the lived experiences of this land and its people.
Poetry offers a unique record of how history is felt, remembered, interpreted, and reimagined across generations. While the Semiquincentennial invites reflection on the nation’s founding, the Delaware Poets Almanac uses this moment to celebrate the many poetic voices that have shaped and continue to shape Delaware’s cultural identity.
Delaware Poets, Inc. is a Section 501(c) (3) charitable organization, EIN 42-2182835.
